Why would you wear that, Jessica Simpson?
February 4th 2009 05:36
Jessica Simpson either has no clue whatsoever or is very, very media-savvy. Anyone who follows celebrity news is probably sick of hearing about her, after the trash-talk media spent all of last week giving her flak about her apparent "weight gain". Then of course came the other celebrities like Kim Kardashian showing their support for her in their attempts to lengthen their own fifteen minutes of fame.
The fact is, Jessica has not gained a substantial amount of weight - she just put on a ridiculously unflattering outfit that made her look fat. Take note, curvy girls: high-waisted jeans are not for you! They don't look much good on anyone, in my opinion; they tend to give you that strange, convex, I-put-my-bum-on-backwards look. And if you happen to be tall and willowy, you often look like you have no bum whatsoever. And what's with the double layer of belts? When has that ever been a good idea?
I find it hard to believe that Miss Simpson was trying to look good for that concert. I genuinely believe that, unlike Paris Hilton, her dumb blonde act is simply that - an act. She knows what the people want, and they want to see beautiful celebs falling victim to the same issues that plague them, like weight gain. It makes the public feel like she's only human too, and because of that, they like her all the more. And with body image and obesity being such big issues in our society, it seems she's found the ultimate way to stay high-profile: by wearing clothes that make her look fat.
Think of it this way: when was the last time Jessica was in the news, before this new "weight gain" of hers? That's right, it was months and months ago. Since she fell in love with football star Tony Romo, people stopped feeling sorry for the divorced singer and she began to slip off the radar. Her publicity team knew they had to do something to reinstate her in the public consciousness, and so they dressed her in hideous clothes, shoved her onstage and made sure there were plenty of photographers taking snaps from underneath (the most unflattering angle). As you can see, it worked like a charm.
But for those of us who aren't in the business of staying in the tabloids, we would do well to regard Jessica's "fat day" as an example of how NOT to dress. Aside from comfort, the most important feature of clothing is that it flatters the figure, and as such, trends like high-waisted jeans are best avoided. High-waisted skirts, on the other hand...
