... all the info you need on how to work the latest looks, plus celebrity style profiles, Australian Fashion Week coverage, discussions of fashion's place within our society, the trends to avoid, and more.
By definition, a 'trend' must have some kind of prevailing tendency, that is, there must be some mode of similarity between the people or things that are following that particular trend - or else it is simply not a trend at all. And yet, when it comes to nail colours, we are so often bombarded with suggestions that 'this season's hottest trend' is one particular colour, when in actual fact it is many! Sure, there are occasions when one style will dominate over all others, but most of the time, nail 'trends' are as diverse as the models, celebrities and stylish women who are wearing them - and in my opinion, it is all just a marketing ploy to get women to buy as many different colours as they possibly can, regardless of whether those colours suit their own unique tastes.

So far, sew good

May 16th 2010 23:44
Like many women, I'm not usually one to wear my clothes until they wear out. Once they've hit their use-by date, in fashion terms, they'll either be sold on ebay or given to charity. But there is the occasional piece - whether it be jeans, a much-loved jacket or in my case, a great dress - that we'll want to keep in our wardrobes for the life of the garment, and in some cases, beyond its natural life. This is when the old-school arts of sewing and mending come in handy, and although I hadn't sewed in more than ten years, I'm rather proud of the result of my own personal project: successfully turning my favourite floral summer dress into what is now, my favourite floral summer skirt.

From dress... to skirt! This took less than ten minutes to achieve.

Lady in red...

December 9th 2009 05:47
In a season where sequins and sparkles are dominating the dresses worn by Sydney's bright young things, you can still stand out from the crowd the old-fashioned way by slipping into something a little more... red! We all know that red is the colour of passion, love and all that jazz, but did you know that men actually consider a woman wearing red to be more attractive than those who aren't?

When in doubt... wear black!

August 11th 2009 12:51
We've all been there. Staring into the depths of our closets as the minutes tick by, feeling utterly uninspired by what is hanging there before us. We need to look just right, and yet we don't have the time to shop for something new. It's moments like these that we need to remember the mantra of the truly stylish: when in doubt, wear black!

Looking hot in a cold economy

May 30th 2009 06:12
So the global economy has gone bust and forced us all to re-think our spending. Nothing new there. Several of the world's most prominent fashion houses have gone under, too, the most recent being Christian Lacroix. But just because we're experiencing the worst recession in decades, doesn't mean that we have to sacrifice our own sense of style. In fact, when it comes to fashion, this economic downturn could almost be a blessing in disguise: it forces us to be both creative and resourceful when it comes to what we wear, separating the truly stylish from the rest of the fashion pack.

There are some styles that simply never go out of fashion, and having short, blood-red nails is one of them. They instantly vamp up your outfit and look extra hot when you're also wearing blood-red lipstick.

How to dress like a model

August 15th 2008 02:47
Now, I'm not talking about the clothes models wear on the catwalk or in magazines - that's a no-brainer. If you want those clothes, simply go out and buy them. What I'm talking about is dressing like a model who is on her day off and has been snapped by the paparazzi eating lunch, shopping or hanging with friends.
