Wardrobe classics: The plain white t-shirt

Fashion news? Hardly... but every now and then I like to write about the classic pieces, the staples, the items that no wardrobe should be without. And when it comes to the basics, there's nothing that springs to mind faster than the plain white cotton t-shirt. It's a truly timeless piece of clothing that can be paired with just about anything, depending on whether you're going for a casual weekend vibe, or just need a reliable starting point from which to create a fabulous layered outfit.
Occasionally a top fashion magazine will jump on the white t-shirt bandwagon and you'll be shown a not-so-diverse selection in the $100-plus range. Needless to say, you don't need to spend quite that much on such a simple piece and are far better off buying five different styles for $20 or less from your favourite chain or department store (because really, only the most obsessive of style hounds will ever be able to spot the difference).
