The Olsen Influence

They're Hollywood starlets, entrepreneurs and successful fashion designers, now Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have turned their tiny twin hands to writing: with their first book Influence due out at the end of October. In it they talk candidly about their lives and those who have shaped their careers, both in Hollywood and in the fashion industry. Among those interviewed for the book were elite fashion designers John Galliano, Christian Louboutin, Diane Von Furstenburg and Karl Lagerfeld.
"We interviewed the people who have inspired us, with the hope that they will inspire and teach others," says Mary-Kate. "We want to explain culturally how ideas evolve."
Added Ashley, "We have filled Influence with the most interesting, challenging, creative people we know - the ones who helped pave the way for us and our generation."
The 272-page hardcover book has two covers, one with Ashley on the front and Mary-Kate on the back, and the other with their positions reversed.
Fashion industry veterans, the Olsen twins first took their designs to the tween market before becoming the faces of Badgley Mischka in 2006, as an attempt to gain credibility with fashion's elite. Soon after they launched their own label The Row, which has a new line called Elizabeth & James.
Beyond fashion design, the pair are known for being fashion icons, with Mary-Kate's style lauded as being one-of-a-kind and Ashley's as classically elegant with modern touches. They are frequently seen in the front row of the world's most exclusive fashion shows, and socialise with top designers on a regular basis.
Influence will undoubtedly bring even greater notoriety to the pair, and includes never-before-seen photos from the 22-year-olds' private collections.
