Tavi Gevinson, style prodigy

August 30th 2010 05:26
Just about anyone who keeps up with their fashion blogs will have heard of Tavi Gevinson, but for those who haven't, here's a quick little profile. The fourteen-year-old Chicago native created her blog The Style Rookie less than three years ago and has since become one of the most prominent fashion bloggers on the net, with an audience of more than one million readers per month (and rising). She's been called the "frontline of fashion" and has become the envy of journalists three times her age... but when you take a squiz at her blog, it's not hard to see why.

Tavi Gevinson
A style rookie? I think not.

Her writing is spookily perceptive, and has the wit of a genuine old soul. She's self-deprecating in the extreme, which has the effect of disarming all but the harshest of critics. Her sense of style is undeniably unique. She understands fashion, and loves it, but at the same time keeps it in perspective; she's not one of those "fashion is everything" types, and it shows.

And did I mention that she already has a signature haircut?

The Style Rookie
Tavi Gevinson: 'I know what I don't like, and I know to take everything with a grain of salt.'

Gevinson is now a front row regular at fashion shows worldwide, has featured in a number of magazines (including French Vogue) and has inspired the creations of designers from New York to Japan.... while still managing to keep on top of her school work. She's remarkably grounded despite her success, and takes the criticism that is flung at her better than most adults would be able to.

As for her personal inspiration, she's all about embracing the bizarre, and throwing off society's conventions, and will just as happily wear something from the Salvation Army as she will a high-end designer piece. She writes, "The idea of being a mad eccentric who is constantly slipping into different skins is so appealing to me. I started this blog because I wanted to explore my style. Now I have more of an idea of what it is and will just continue to try and apply it every day."

Check out Tavi's blog here, and inform your fashion-loving kith and kin. She really is that good.

Looks like she's growing it out and added some faded pink to it. I like the short blonde hair style better on this little girl.

I prefer the grey, with her cool skin tone... but the grey hair trend among young things is fizzling out already; once it hits the mainstream the Tavis among us are already onto the next thing.

"Little girl"... lol. Reading her blog you'd swear she was in her twenties - an old soul for sure. Cheers for the comment Whitney.
