Splat.

Now this is a style that is not particularly on trend, but is definitely a personal favourite of mine. Probably because no-one else is wearing it (yet). It's the paint splatter, or the ink blot, or simply splat. Less obvious than the now-ubiquitous tie dye, and yet still symbolic of a bygone era. Retro, without being too boho. Quirky, fun, and always unique because like the girls who wear it, no two paint splatters will be the same.
The splat design won't appeal to all of us, but therein lies its beauty. It's a very undone look, not to be taken seriously, and definitely not to be followed to the letter. Personally, I love this tee by Volcom (as featured in the January 2010 issue of Australian Vogue) because rather than a bold, 80s-style paint splatter, it has a feel to it that is more watercolour, less acrylic.
But that's just me.
The very essence of this design is its distinct individuality, added to its carefree feel. It's meant to be worn in the way that suits your style. It's an easy one to DIY as well: grab some fabric paints, large paintbrushes, some plain tees or tank tops (or jeans, denim shorts, Dunlop Volleys...) and a couple of friends and get splattering! The results may not be what you expected, but they will certainly be unique; and ultimately, that's the entire point of the splat.
And what's a Fashion Peach blog without celebrity inspiration? Jessica, Miley and Demi are here to show you how it's done. Anyone can pull off this look, it's just a matter of knowing which kind of splat is the splat for you.... and only you.
