My favourite fashion blogs
May 3rd 2010 04:08
Much to the excitement of all of us Aussie fashion-y types, Australian Fashion Week has begun (yay!) but before I get started on my coverage of that, I'd like to share with you a few of my personal favourite fashion blogs. We all know about People Stylewatch and the countless blogs associated with long-established fashion mags (like Vogue, Marie Claire, Grazia and so on) so this post is devoted to those blogs that are entirely separate from the "old media." So without further adieu, my fave fashion blogs of the moment are...
WishWishWish - The author of this blog is just nineteen years old but there's no denying that she has what it takes to be right up there with the best fashion bloggers on the net. WishWishWish is a very personal blog, beautiful in design, with some really gorgeous photos of unique and elegant outfits. Definitely worth a gander.
Go Fug Yourself - A hilarious and usually dead-right commentary blog that pokes fun at the often questionable outfits worn by celebrities. The "fuggers" began their blog as a way of escaping the boredom of their day jobs... and now have more than 300,000 unique readers per day. Not bad for a business born out of escapism!
Recycled Fashion - This blog was created just a few months ago, but already there's a ton of worthy information there for the clothes-conscious babe who also wants to minimise her fashion footprint (and in my humble opinion, that should be all of us). Frugality and eco-awareness mixed in with a healthy dose of style.... perfect.
Jezebel's Fashion Page - Okay, so it's not technically a blog, but it is a page worth sharing. Jezebel is an awesome site in general (made for, and by, ultra-modern, fierce and fearless females) but the fashion page is a real gem because it features stuff you won't find elsewhere on the net, with a huge community of commenters more than happy to provide their opinion.
Green Lashes and Fashion - Another blog with a focus on the environmentally sustainable, and it's not just fashion: there's vegetarian recipes, green ideas for beauty and health (walnut face mask, anyone?) and like any blog worth its netspace, plenty of gorgeous photographs.
And while many of you may already go there regularly, for those who haven't yet been introduced to The Sartorialist, then allow me to do the honours. Savvy New Yorker Scott Schuman launched his now world-famous blog in late 2005, as he searched the streets looking for style inspiration. He found it in a big way, and now his blog contains thousands of beautiful images from around the world... there's no doubt that whatever style you're looking to emulate, whether it be classic, eclectic, bohemian, high fashion and more, you'll find it among the archives of Schuman's blog.
The beauty of fashion blogs is not only in their immediacy, but in the way they are relatively free of commercial bias - bloggers really don't get paid that much and because of this, they're writing from the heart. If you come across any more excellent fashion blogs that I haven't mentioned here, then by all means let me know about them! There's nothing better than inspiration.... except, of course, when it's free.
