Miranda Kerr plays a background role for Prada

Australian supermodel Miranda Kerr has done her first ad campaign for Prada, and I have to admit that I was surprised when I first saw the photos. I've become so used to Miranda being a celebrity and an Aussie icon that I naturally assumed her role in the campaign would be front and centre... but as you can see from the images, this is far from the case. Miranda only appears in a handful of photographs and in one of the shots, half her face is missing! Not what I expected, but the ad campaign is gorgeous nonetheless.
Photographed by Steven Meisel, the campaign has a distinct 1960s feel to it, complete with bouffant hairstyles, plenty of tweed and a retro bar setting. Kerr appears alongside several other models, including Sigrid Agren, Valerija Kelava, Kim Dall Armi, Clement Chabernaud, Mark Cox, Mathias Bergh, Daria Strokous and Angela Lindvall.
I can only assume that, in keeping with their classic image, Prada chose to downplay the supermodel's celebrity status by deliberately making her blend in with the rest of the models. And it works - the focus is drawn back to the clothes that Kerr and her companions are wearing, which is the whole point of ad campaigns (and models, for that matter!)
It's not the first time that Miranda - who recently became engaged to long-time boyfriend Orlando Bloom - has blended in for the sake of high fashion. She hit the catwalk for Balenciaga at last year's Paris Fashion Week, and concealed her trademark dimples so effectively that she became almost unrecognisable!
And as with these shots for Prada, it just goes to show how versatile she is as a model, and why she is still highly sought-after in the fashion industry at the relatively mature age of 27... she can do sexy, she can do girl-next-door, and it's now clear as day that she's got the goods to do high fashion as well.
