LiLo for Ungaro?
September 11th 2009 00:25
In a move that has raised more than a few eyebrows, elite French fashion house Ungaro has appointed Lindsay Lohan as the "artistic advisor" for their upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The troubled Hollywood starlet will oversee the work of Ungaro's current head designer Estrella Archs. The reason for this? Apparently, to take the Ungaro label to a "younger place" with a harder fashion edge.
"Different generations have different ideas," the 23-year-old starlet said. "I've always played a big part in what I wear, the costumes. Clothing is something that's so expressive in so many ways. It really interests me." Lohan will be working closely with Estrella Archs, in a role where she "kind of oversees everything [Archs] does."
While there's no denying that Lohan is a fashionista - of sorts - I'm not the only one who suspects that her image may not be the Ungaro ideal. Yes, the Ungaro designs of the past have always had an element of daring to them, but they are ultimately quite sophisticated and elegant. Emanuel Ungaro himself once described the Ungaro woman as being "sexy, but not vulgar"... certainly not the words that come to mind when one thinks of Miss Lohan.
While many are suspecting that Ungaro's decision is purely a stab at gaining more publicity for the label, we will soon find out whether Lohan really does have what it takes to be an artistic advisor. The Spring/Summer 2010 collection will be unveiled on the Paris catwalks in October, as part of Paris Fashion Week.
In the meantime, here are some slightly less high-profile celebs who have chosen Ungaro designs over the years... and seem to fit the "Ungaro woman" image rather well.
