Katy Perry: 'I like to have fun with fashion'
May 9th 2009 02:13
Katy Perry is becoming almost as well known for her bizarre fashion choices as she is for her music! While the I Kissed A Girl songstress may not be in the same league as Madonna or Cher when it comes to musical fame, she's certainly following in their footsteps when it comes to headline-grabbing sartorial style.
"I like to have fun with fashion," the 24-year-old said. “I don’t ever want to wear just jeans and tee shirts."
Most singers wear eye-catching garb when onstage but Perry extends this to red carpet functions and publicity events too. Both her fruity Grammys dress and her memorable Hello Kitty corset were designed by over-the-top label The Blonds, headed by design duo Phillipe and David Blond. "They're larger than life, she says. "I love that they have no limits!"
While her outfit choices may make her seem like she's making a mockery of fashion, the opposite is true - the singer is often seen perched alongside other celebrities in the front row of major fashion shows, and claims to "prefer Dior".
And every now and then, she'll ditch the crazy attire for something a little more elegant and on-trend - though never dull. "Usually I'm trying to look like a party," she says. And the best parties are almost always the wild ones.
