Finally!

Young women in Sydney are dressing their age, as opposed to wearing the old-lady-like, shapeless dresses of last Summer. This time last year, it seemed that every shop you went into, there was nothing but row upon row of unflattering dresses. Completely un-buyable, unless, of course, you were pregnant; in that case you'd hit the jackpot.
So it is so nice to finally be able to wear comfy denim shorts and whatever-the-hell-you-want on top, and not look out of place. Havaianas are still the footwear of choice, or cute flats. Dresses are frequently white or neutral and almost peasant-style, but not quite... they have a more feminine quality to them than the dresses of seasons past, and the hemline is much, much higher.
As for those ever-present gladiator flats? They're so yesterday. I stopped wearing mine the day my 12-year-old cousin wore exactly the same pair (and I mean exactly) to a family gathering. Believe me, my inner fashionista was cringing! Once a trend has become that mainstream, you need to sell what you have on ebay and move on. Unless, of course, there's been an innovative improvement (like the adding of jewels). Make sure it's actually an improvement though, and not a nasty mutation (like these).
Denim skirts are still big news, no surprises there, and that awful plaid shirt trend appears to have died down as the weather got warmer. But right now, in a nutshell, the sartorial style among women in Sydney is relaxed, feminine and one hell of a lot more attractive than last year.
