Emma Watson to design her own clothing line

Well, sort of! The 19-year-old Harry Potter star has joined forces with UK label People Tree to create an environmentally sustainable line of clothing, aimed at the under-24 market. The collection is set for a February 2010 launch, with all proceeds going to the People Tree Foundation, a charity which aims to teach farmers and artisans about the benefits of sustainable fashion. Miss Watson served as the creative advisor for the design project, in the hope that she could bring the environmental and humanitarian issues surrounding the fashion industry into the spotlight.
"I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there,” Watson said. "I wanted to help People Tree produce a younger range because I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with."
The range will include jersey t-shirts, dresses, woven skirts, trousers, shorts and knitwear for both men and women, as well as recycled jewellery, slouchy beanies and head scarves. Every item in the collection uses 100% organic Fair Trade cotton.
As the face of Burberry and an up-and-coming fashion icon, I think Emma is the ideal choice for the collection's creative advisor, and can't wait to see her designs! For more information you can check out the People Tree website at www.peopletree.co.uk
