Emma Watson is the new face of Burberry
June 10th 2009 06:00
There were rumours circulating last year that Harry Potter starlet Emma Watson was to become the face of Chanel, and it turns out that they weren't far off the mark! The 19-year-old beauty is to become the face of Burberry for their upcoming autumn ad campaign. The prestigious British fashion house prides itself on timeless elegance, a trait that is epitomised by the young actress - therefore making her the ideal choice as Burberry's main model for their autumn catalogue.
“Having known and admired the lovely Emma Watson for quite some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign who like the images she fronts, has a classic beauty, a great character and a modern edge,” says Christopher Bailey, Burberry's creative director. “Emma’s charm, intellect and brilliant sense of fun made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.”
Watson has been one of Britain's major fashion icons for years now, despite not being out of her teens. As these shots attest, however, she's all grown up and more than ready for the challenge of being the face of a top international label. Says Bailey, “I wanted the images to represent both the rich history and the modernity of the Burberry brand whilst at the same time reflecting a quiet beauty, timelessness and strength that is particularly significant today.” I think she's done a fine job - what are your thoughts?
