Dita Von Teese to design a range of lingerie

In one of those "I'd assumed that had already happened" moments, I discovered earlier this week that a new lingerie line is to be created by none other than the reigning Queen of Burlesque herself! Dita Von Teese has scored an exciting new gig as head designer of a range of sexy, retro-style ladies underwear, all of which will be available to buy in Australia early next year.

"Indulging in elegant lingerie isn't about the seduction of another person," the 38-year-old said in a media release. "It's about seducing yourself first and embracing womanhood and femininity."

And you won't need to have a 21-inch waist like Von Teese does to fit into her designs: the line will be available in a range of women's sizes, from the super-petite to the voluptuous, with cup sizes reaching an E.

"I love lingerie that fits well and is also beautiful, bringing function together with glamour and sensuality," said Von Teese. "I am especially excited to be designing lingerie with a vast sizing range so that women of all shapes and sizes can have a beautiful, sensual lingerie wardrobe that suits their body shape."

The lingerie collection is being launched by Australia's Lime Door Brands, who have asked the burlesque star to design a retro-inspired line of dresses for them as well. Given Von Teese's experience in working with lingerie - not to mention her impressive and unique sense of personal style - this writer has no doubt that her designs will be a huge hit with buyers, both in Australia and overseas. Cynical Nice Guy would say Von Teese is commercialising herself to the hilt and extending the range (and therefore profit margin) to include everyone up to and including E cups.

More subdued Nice Guy would say good on her for making sure real women get a look in when it comes to lingerie.

Well she certainly wouldn't be the first celeb to go commercial! And why wouldn't you make it available to as many women as is practical - it's good business sense which Von Teese clearly has in spades.
