Critics unimpressed by Lohan's fashion debut
October 6th 2009 05:02
This is hardly surprising news: Lindsay Lohan's first collection as Emanuel Ungaro's artistic adviser was a complete disaster, with critics labelling the collection "cheesy and dated" and "an embarrassment" to the Ungaro brand. The 23-year-old's designs were shown on Sunday as part of the 2009 Paris Fashion Week, and according to The New York Times, left "several people in the audience aghast."
The Hollywood starlet had spent the last few weeks "overseeing" the work of Ungaro's head designer, Estrella Archs, for the House of Ungaro Spring 2010 runway show. The idea was to take the Ungaro label to "a younger place" but instead has simply brought attention to its executives' foolish business decisions. According to one critic, the ugly, cheap-looking dresses were nothing short of entertaining, with the models parading the catwalk amidst "endless snickers and rolled eyes."
Here is one reviewer's description of Lohan's designs: "They looked cheesy and dated, as has often been the case during chez Ungaro’s post-Emanuel revolving door of designers. Hot pink, orange and flashy, with an overworked heart motif relentless in its execution, the collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Nor in a million years would one guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and 'creative directed' by another. Glitter heart pasties all around, ladies?"
Maybe this will make other brands think twice before doling out "artistic advisor" positions to entirely unqualified celebrities! Lohan will bounce back from this failure, as she always does, but Ungaro and Estrella Archs may have a harder time dealing with the embarrassment of it all. If nothing else, it's brought some major publicity to the Ungaro label, and their designs can only get better from here!
