Celebrity Style: Carey Mulligan

April 4th 2010 04:26
She first hit the big screen in 2005's Pride and Prejudice but it wasn't until Carey Mulligan appeared in the 2009 film An Education that audiences really began to sit up and take notice. Despite Mulligan thinking she was "completely awful" in the movie, it seems that the Hollywood bigwigs thought otherwise: she received various major award nominations for the role, including that of Best Actress at both the Academy Awards and the Golden Globes. It’s her charming personality that has us most enthralled, however: she’s smart, humble, and determined to be respected for her work above all else.

She may be turning 40 this year but don’t expect supermodel Claudia Schiffer to be retiring from the world of fashion anytime soon. “I really enjoy my work. I’m not going to be happy when it stops!” the svelte German-born blonde told Vogue magazine. While her catwalk days are a thing of the past, Schiffer’s photo shoot opportunities are still flowing in: she’s currently the face of Alberta Ferretti’s new fragrance and last year did campaigns for Salvatore Ferragamo, Yves Saint Laurent and made an appearance in the documentary Valentino. When you consider that most models are history by the time they turn 25, it’s not a bad effort from the girl who was once so shy that she thought that the model scout had chosen her by mistake!

Who's that girl?

February 10th 2010 23:02
It's Stefani Germanotta, of course.... better known as Lady Gaga! Last week when I wrote about how the singer's crazy outfits were becoming passe, I searched far and wide (well, as far and wide as the Internet will allow) to find a classy photograph of her, to no avail. But suddenly, here it is: a highschool yearbook photograph of Miss Germanotta from 2004.

When crazy becomes passe

February 3rd 2010 07:14
Anyone who watches the Grammys knows that the fashion choices there are meant to be a bit left of centre. This year was no different: we saw giant puffy arm ornaments, Britney Spears without any pants, and dresses that were half-mini, half-maxi (worn by Jennifer Lopez - no surprise, and designed by Versace - hmmmm). And of course, Rihanna in her fashion-forward frocks and Lady Gaga rocking the weirdest looks she could find, because hey, she's Lady Gaga and that's what she does. But rather than being inspired by the symbolism of the wacky outfits, or even amused by the absurdity of Grammys fashion, I found myself feeling rather.... numb to it all. The apparently 'crazy' outfits had become dull, tedious, and boring. And it got me thinking - at what point does the crazy become passe?

The talented and super-stylish Emma Watson has reprised her role as the face of Burberry. These latest shots, from the Spring/Summer 2010 collection, showcase Watson in a classic trench coat with a very modern touch (check out the shoulders!) and a beautifully draped, belted taupe dress. She's joined by One Night Only musician George Craig and a particularly striking male model, who just so happens to be her younger brother Alex.

My favourite red carpet looks of 2009

December 18th 2009 02:03
While it's often more fun to have a laugh at the worst dressed celebrities (here's some of them, with more coming soon), I also love to see stars at their absolute best. The dresses worn by these five red carpet beauties were ranked as my favourites of this year, mostly because of their elegance, fashion-forward stance and undeniable style. And so, without further ado...

High heels for a 3-year-old? Hmmm

December 1st 2009 18:10
Hollywood superstars Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes sparked controversy in October when their young daughter Suri was photographed wearing high heels. Katie has recently defended her daughter's choice in footwear, saying that the beige high heels are actually "supportive dance shoes" and that the public's concerns for her toddler's healthy development are unwarranted.

And the new face of Armani is....

October 15th 2009 01:54
Who else but the hottest face (and body!) in Hollywood right now... Megan Fox! She'll be the main model for the Emporio Armani 2010 Underwear campaign, with the ads hitting the public arena as soon as January. The ad campaign is likely to be Armani's sexiest yet, and will give all those Megan-haters out there even more of a reason to be jealous!

Is that... Miranda Kerr?

October 10th 2009 05:00
Miranda Kerr showed off her versatility at last month's Paris Fashion Week, so efficiently that many in the audience didn't realise who she was! With her tan, brunette locks and trademark grin temporarily gone, the Aussie supermodel blended seamlessly with the other models strutting the catwalk for Balenciaga.

Celebrity Style: Vanessa Hudgens

September 30th 2009 13:34
When it comes to effortless bohemian style, there's no-one who does it better than Vanessa Hudgens. The 20-year-old star of the High School Musical franchise and this year's Bandslam is a true expert in new-school hippie dressing, and has a knack for selecting pieces that express her individuality while also keeping her firmly on-trend. The fashion conscious among us know that this is not an easy feat!

Taylor Swift's red carpet style

September 16th 2009 12:07
She may have been upstaged by Kanye West's rude interruption at the MTV Video Music Awards earlier this week, but rarely is Taylor Swift upstaged on the red carpet. The 19-year-old country music sensation has an absolutely flawless sense of style when it comes to formal dressing; she's the very epitome of elegance and grace. Her style is both unashamedly glamorous and very, very feminine.

LiLo for Ungaro?

September 11th 2009 00:25
In a move that has raised more than a few eyebrows, elite French fashion house Ungaro has appointed Lindsay Lohan as the "artistic advisor" for their upcoming Spring/Summer 2010 collection. The troubled Hollywood starlet will oversee the work of Ungaro's current head designer Estrella Archs. The reason for this? Apparently, to take the Ungaro label to a "younger place" with a harder fashion edge.
