Bright bohemia!

We Aussies may still be in the throes of winter but there's nothing like eyeing off new season trends to remind us that summer will soon be back. Right now I'm spying a mini-trend in the form of brightly coloured, boho-inspired satchels, which have lately been seen hanging off the tres chic shoulders of Rachel Bilson, Sienna Miller, Kate Hudson and a handful of the other usual suspects. Vibrant patterns, rainbow colours, mirror beads and tassles... what's not to love about modern bohemia?
I consider this latest accessory trend to be an extension of the fringed handbag phenomenon; these bags have that seventies feel about them and - if you're lucky - might just be lurking in a dusty corner of your local op shop.
There's also an exotic element here, though the exact location of said exoticness will vary depending on what patterns are featured on your bag. Mirror beads will add a Moroccan flavour, Ikat will invoke South America, and gilded threads woven throughout will give your bag a distinctly Oriental feel.
And if you happen to be jetting off to Bali, Thailand or Vietnam anytime soon, then keep an eye out at the local markets for brightly coloured boho bags, as you really won't find them cheaper anywhere else! They probably won't suit your late-winter gear when you get back home, but it matters not, as summer is just a few short months away.
