Mini-trend: Bare midriffs
March 7th 2011 02:13
Now before you write this one off immediately, hear me out: unlike the blatant belly-baring of the early noughties, this latest incarnation of the bare midriff is all about showing just a hint of skin, thus keeping the overall look classy and subtle. The idea is to pair a cropped top with a high-waisted skirt or pants, showing off the very top of your abs while keeping the rest of your stomach under wraps. No room for muffin tops here!
Quite a few international fashion houses have featured bare midriffs as part of their recent Spring/Summer collections, and it hasn't taken too long for the celebrity set to catch on either. The key thing to remember with this trend is not to overdo the amount of skin shown: if you must wear a short skirt with your cropped top, then make sure your arms are covered; likewise if you're showing off your cleavage as well as your midriff then you need to wear a long skirt or pants to balance it out.
Of course, this look isn't for everyone - if you're in doubt, then you're probably better off not going there! Here's a few of the celebs who have taken a stab at this latest mini-trend.
