It's that time once again... Australian Fashion Week is coming!
April 16th 2010 01:24
Now in its fifteenth year, Rosemount Australian Fashion Week is hitting Sydney from the 3rd to the 7th of May, 2010. As usual it will be featuring the spring/summer collections from the pinnacle of Australian fashion designers, and once again, I'll be writing about the fresh new Aussie designs in a three-part series. You'll be seeing some of our best local talent - both designers, and models - showcasing the hottest looks of the upcoming season.
In addition to the usual week of runway shows, The Powerhouse Museum is hosting an exhibition celebrating the decade and a half of this fabulous event. Called Frock stars: inside Australian Fashion Week, the exhibition will "unveil the history, highlights, controversies and achievements of an event that has challenged and changed perceptions of the Australian fashion industry" (from the website - check it out here). It's perfect for those of us who can't get inside the industry-only event that is RAFW, plus the exhibition will be running for months - from April 22nd (that's next week!) to August 29th, 2010.
Fashion Week is an exciting one for any clothes-loving Aussie gal, simply because we get a good look at what it is we'll be wearing over the spring and summer months, when the cold chills of the Sydney autumn have set in. And as my coverage of last year's Fashion Week demonstrates (here's part one, part two, and the verdict of RAFW 2009), the predictions of upcoming trends can be accurately forecast based upon this one week of shows. Last year's runways were teeming with sharp shoulders, sequins and metallics, futuristic necklines, sexy cutouts and one-shoulder dresses.... I wonder what Fashion Week will have in store for us this year? Watch this blog, and you'll be finding out soon enough!
To discover which designers are featuring this year, as well as plenty more information and some videos of last year's standout collections, check out the official Rosemount Australian Fashion Week website here.
