Australian Fashion Week 2010: The looks so far
May 5th 2010 00:19
We're nearly halfway through this year's Rosemount Australian Fashion Week and so it's time to take a look at some of the collections we've seen so far. Well-established designers like Lisa Ho, Camilla Franks and Aurelio Costarella have all brought their own signature stylings to the fore, with the usual splashes of vibrant colour from Franks, gorgeous maxis and blush-pink outfits from Lisa Ho and an earthy aesthetic from Costarella, who also chose to use faux fur detailing..... something of a rarity for a spring/summer collection but hey, it worked!
While earthy colours, tribal detailing and back-to-nature designs reigned supreme, there were plenty of digital print designs on display too, and even more of the one-shoulder dresses that were virtually ubiquitous on the RAFW catwalks last year. There was also a famous model or two to be spotted - including Australian supermodel Alyssa Sutherland, gracing the catwalk for Lisa Ho - and plenty of fresh new faces as well.
Swimwear seems to have taken something of a fifties turn, in terms of both cut, and embellishment. The one-pieces from Seventh Wonderland provided good coverage, with crochet-style detailing and cutouts much less obvious than in the swimsuits of 2009. Of course there were plenty of bikinis as well, but even these were less girlish and more womanly than they have been in recent years. A sign of things to come, perhaps?
There's three days of the 2010 Rosemount Australian Fashion Week to go, so naturally there will be plenty more fresh Aussie designs hitting centre stage. Next update is in less than two days' time, so stay tuned!

The young models are still on top! An ethereal, bored-eyed teenage beauty walks the catwalk for Zambesi
